The physiological mechanisms of cereal plant reaction to stresses of drought, low temperature low soil ph and low availability of mineral nutrients are studied.

Objectives:

  • physiological mechanisms of reaction of cereals to water and low temperature stress on different organization levels - whole plants, seedlings, tissues and cells,
  • genetic variability among wheat and triticale genotypes with respect to efficiency in mineral nutrients utilisation (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium),
  • genetic determination and localization of genes controlling plant reaction to aluminum stress in wheat, rye and triticale chromosomal location of molecular markers of aluminum tolerance in rye.

Laboratory of Molecular Markers

Objectives:

  • differentiation of rye and triticale plant materials for the purpose of hybrid breeding,
  • identification of molecular markers linked to pollen fertility restoration genes in rye for cms Pampa,
  • identification of molecular markers linked to Al tolerant genes in triticale,
  • studies on somaclonal variation in barley and triticale,
  • studies on genome methylation changes due to tissue culture processes in barley.
